Project Report

Basically Idea of Venn diagram is to illustrate the relationships between sets and, groups of objects that share something in common. Usually, Venn diagrams are used to depict set intersections. To enhance students learning about sets and comparing two things, I used GeoGebra software.

I have designed the applet in an interesting way (with the help of rotating points) to demonstrate concept of union and intersection of two sets. Which I have never seen before.

This type of diagram is used in scientific and engineering presentations, in theoretical mathematics, in computer applications and in statistics.


*This applet serves to organize students' thoughts and is labelled according to the topic at hand and the aspects that need to be compared and contrasted. Due to their relatively simple structure and visually effective nature, Venn diagrams are considered to be an indispensable educational technique, equally useful for both children and adults. Most teachers prefer to use a Venn diagram as a pre-writing activity in order to help students categorise the knowledge they have already gained. Having classified all the similarities and differences, students are able to make an in-depth analysis of the topic and draw a well-grounded conclusion.
Such applets can be successfully applied to a wide range of subjects. For instance, students can compare and contrast several cities and their climates during a Geography lesson, organize various animals or different cell structures in Biology and study the character traits of different protagonists in works of twentieth century Literature. The key point is to determine the objects that need to be compared beforehand. The more aspects that are included in a Venn diagram, the more comprehensive the analysis is. To optimize the process we can use various colours and shapes; however, it can also be used, especially when constructing several diagrams at the same time. If used correctly, this graphic tool makes the teaching and learning process a lot more interesting and effective.
*Designing of applet is new for us and we have to explore many different new things by using this latest version of GeoGebra. Due to limited time it was quite difficult to explore every option which can be used for our applet. For example, how to rotate the points and insert the formula and images. We tried different options of the software and downloaded background images from internet to give colourful impact to our applet. Finally we have designed the interesting, colorful, attractive and conceptual applet.
We have completed this project with the coordination of my students and help by I.T teacher.
